Carpets add a touch of elegance and coziness to any room, but they can also be magnets for dirt and stains. Here’s how Briance Paris recommends you maintain that brand-new carpet look :

Immediate action for fresh stains

Carpet fibers are delicate and require careful handling. One wrong move can make a stain worse.
  • First and foremost, blot any liquid or grease with a paper towel. Contrary to popular belief, rubbing is a no-no. If the stain dries and leaves a residue, it’s easier to scrape or vacuum.

Tailored cleaning for different stains

Different stains require different treatments:
  • Sauces and oil: Let the stain dry, then dab with white vinegar. Gently scrub in a circular motion using a toothbrush, a bit of dish soap, and water.
  • Greasy stains: Apply a mix of lemon juice, salt, and cold water. Gently scrub in circles, finishing with a splash of sparkling water.
  • Coffee: Use lukewarm water and a tiny amount of dish soap. Be careful, especially on light-colored carpets, as the soap can foam and spread the stain.
  • Wine: For white and rosé wines, cover the stain with baking soda to absorb the excess liquid. Once dry, lightly scrape off the residue and pour sparkling water to finish cleaning. For red wine stains, dab with white wine first, then follow the same steps with baking soda and sparkling water. The stain will vanish as if by magic.
Remember, after cleaning, ensure your carpet dries thoroughly to prevent fiber damage and unpleasant odors.

Regular carpet maintenance

Stains aren’t the only culprits. Dust, footprints, and the passage of time can also wear down your carpets. Here are some Briance Paris tips:
  • Vacuum weekly: Just like clothes, carpet fibers need care. Vacuum weekly to remove dust, crumbs, and outdoor dirt. If you have a garden, air out your carpets regularly.
  • For colored carpets: Colors may fade over time, but there’s a trick to keep them vibrant. Baking soda is a textile’s best friend. Sprinkle it over your carpet to tackle impurities. Let it sit for about 15 minutes, then vacuum. Dampen the carpet with sparkling water, let it dry, give it a light brush, and vacuum again. Your carpet will shine anew.
  • Furniture indentations: If furniture leaves marks on your carpet, place a damp towel over the indentation and iron over it until the towel dries. The carpet fibers will spring back to life.
